RE/MAX National Housing Report - October 2015

by Nate Martinez

RE/MAX National Housing Report - October 2015

After a hot summer selling season, September home sales followed an expected seasonal trend and cooled off 8.6 percent lower than August, but were still 6.8 percent higher than September 2014. The number of completed transactions was the highest seen in the month of September since the RE/MAX National Housing Report began collecting data in 2008. Based on the report’s MLS data from 53 metropolitan areas, the Median Sales Price for homes sold in September was $209,000, which is 7.2 percent above the price one year ago. The inventory of homes for sale still challenges this market at a level 12.8 percent less than September 2014. At the rate of home sales in September, the Months Supply of inventory was 4.5, nearly the same as the 4.9 average last September.

“Home sales usually cool down in the fall and it looks like this year is no exception, but September is falling right in line with the summer months with sales much higher than last year. Prices are also moderating on a month-to-month basis, and mortgage rates remain low. This translates to more attractive home affordability.” Dave Liniger, RE/MAX CEO, Chairman of the Board and Co-Founder.

Nate's Monday Morning Message

by Nate Martinez

Nate's Monday Morning Message

“Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.” - Francis of Assisi

Welcome to this week’s edition of Nate’s Monday Morning Message. Often times we don’t get started on a big dream or goal because we don’t know where to start, or perhaps it is something so big that we feel like it is impossible to achieve. But the road to mastery is paved with persistence. Start where you are today and take action, even if it’s only a small step. If you start by doing what you can right now, then eventually you will make a way to overcome the obstacles you think are holding you back. This week, I encourage each of you to start by doing what you, with what you have – make it a great week!

ENCOURAGEMENT CORNER

From one great figure in the story of 20th century music to another, Ray Charles stands today as one of the most famous figures in the history of jazz music.

In terms of overcoming adversity, Ray Charles, like Jim Abbott, had a huge physical obstacle standing in his way—he was blind.

On the one hand, blind artists are nothing new. After all, John Milton went blind, but still overcame that adversity and stands today as one of the most important poets in English and world literature. Even so, however, Milton went blind later on in his life, whereas Ray Charles was already completely blind by the age of seven.

That didn’t stop Ray, of course. Whether Georgia’s On Your Mind or you have to Hit the Road Jack, you know what we’re saying—Charles became not just one of the greatest jazz musicians of all-time, and a classic case of overcoming adversity, but did so while overcoming different kinds of adversity at that. Besides being blind, Charles had to deal with racism as well.

He’s a great example of what can make someone truly inspirational. With not one but two huge obstacles to his success, millions were influenced by Ray Charles—including fellow blind African-American piano man Stevie Wonder and, of course, Jamie Foxx, who played Charles in an acclaimed biopic—and he remains hugely inspirational today, a testament to just how far genius and determination can take you.

Nate's Monday Morning Message

by Nate Martinez

Nate's Monday Morning Message

“Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.” – Steve Jobs.

Welcome to this week’s edition of Nate’s Monday Morning. Steve Jobs is one of my favorite business men; a man who I admire and look up to as a mentor and an inspiration. He said a lot of profound things but this quote is one of my favorites for many reasons. Often times we get stuck in the opinion of others, trapped in a job we don’t love or in a relationship we are afraid to leave. We ignore the little voice who longs to be heard – that is the little voice which speaks of our deepest desires and dreams. This week I encourage you to take a moment to listen to the little voice inside you. What is it telling you? Is there an area of your life that you want to make changes or improve? Dare to dream. Find your courage and do it. Now is the time to take action. Make it a great week!

ENCOURAGEMENT CORNER

Strength and Courage, Written by David L. Griffith

It takes strength to be certain,
It takes courage to have doubts.

It takes strength to fit in,
It takes courage to stand out.

It takes strength to share a friend's pain,
It takes courage to feel your own pain.

It takes strength to hide your own pain,
It takes courage to show it and deal with it.

It takes strength to stand guard,
It takes courage to let down your guard.

It takes strength to conquer,
It takes courage to surrender.

It takes strength to endure abuse,
It takes courage to stop it.

It takes strength to stand alone,
It takes courage to lean on a friend.

It takes strength to love,
It takes courage to beloved.

It takes strength to survive,
It takes courage to live.

WORDS OF INSPIRATION

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it.” - Steve Jobs

“You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something - your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.” - Steve Jobs

“For the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: 'If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?' And whenever the answer has been 'No' for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.” - Steve Jobs

“Things don't have to change the world to be important.” - Steve Jobs

“I believe life is an intelligent thing: that things aren't random.” - Steve Jobs

Nate’s Monday Morning Message

Nate’s Monday Morning Message

Welcome to this week’s Monday Morning Message…yesterday Tonya, Mila and I participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, along with thousands of others and a group of RE/MAX Professionals’ Racers. Together, we were able to raise nearly $1,500 for breast cancer awareness. This year was particularly special to us, because one of our own, Cindy Davis is a breast cancer survivor.

Susan G. Komen has funded more breast cancer research than any other nonprofit and currently is the world’ largest breast cancer organization. Since 1982, Susan G. Komen has raised more than $800 million in research and provided $1.7 billion in funds for screening, education, treatments and support programs than reach thirty countries. Here are some statistics about breast cancer that I feel are important to share with you…

  • One in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.
  • Every minute, somewhere in the world, someone dies from breast cancer.
  • Breast cancer impacts women of all ages, socio-economic status or geographic location.
  • At the current rate, 13 million breast cancer deaths around the world will occur in the next 25 years.

As a RE/MAX agent, I am proud to be sponsor of Susan G. Komen and as a corporate sponsor, RE/MAX has pledged to donate $25,000 in 2015. We are also proud to offer the Home for the Cure®, where a donation is made to Susan G. Komen when a home is bought or sold with a RE/MAX agent.

Community is why we do what we do as REALTORS® and I am proud to be among those who selfishly give their time and money to this great organization. Every day we encounter people with a cancer story and to be able to participate in the Phoenix Race for the Cure is an honor. As you move through your week, I want you to think about the ways that you can make a difference…how can you give back? Can you do something more or better? We are all in this together; let’s make it a great week!

Nate’s Monday Morning Message

Nate’s Monday Morning Message

Welcome to this week’s edition of Nate’s Monday Morning Message…last week I shared a powerful acronym using the word FEAR. Did you find that helpful? Continuing this week on the subject of fear, I want to quote one of my favorite songs by Eminem, and I believe this short video sums it all up. “Look, if you had, one shot, or one opportunity to seize everything you ever wanted. In one moment, would you capture if, or just let it slip?” The choice is yours; you can seize the moment. Make it a great week!
