Nate's Monday Morning Message

Nate’s Monday Morning Message

Welcome to this week’s edition of Nate’s Monday Morning Message…with the holiday season upon us, I thought it would be a good idea to talk about the hustle and bustle or in other words, holiday stress. There are parties to attend, trees to be trimmed and of course all that shopping! But how do we juggle it and maintain a smile on our face…and find a way to enjoy the actual meaning of the season? Here are a few tips…

Take care of your body: although it is important to take care of our bodies all year round, it is especially important when we are stressed. Make it a point to drink plenty of water and get a few extra hours of sleep when possible. I am a big fan of vitamins and there are lots of great options available that will help support our immune systems during times of stress.

Set boundaries and know your limits: this time of year can inflame emotions, especially past hurts or challenges with family and friends. If you find yourself feeling obligated or resentful, you need to re-evaluate. If you aren’t doing something with an attitude of gratitude, then you need to ask yourself why. Don’t over commit yourself with obligations that don’t bring you joy.

Be kind: the holiday season is supposed to be magical and part of what makes it magical comes from the way we treat each other. Life is full of adversities and there are people struggling every day, which can be even more difficult during the holiday season. We can make a difference just by showing a little more kindness to each other.

Remember there is perfection in the imperfections: I get the need to be perfect, but sometimes good enough, needs to be good enough. And sometimes when we let go of the need to control the outcome, the outcome is far better than we had planned. Remember there is perfection in the imperfections.

As you move about the following week, I hope you will take the opportunity to apply these simple thoughts into your holiday season. Let’s make it a great week!

An Attitude of Gratitude

by Nate Martinez

"Thanksgiving Day comes, by statute, once a year; to the honest man it comes as frequently as the heart of gratitude will allow." - Edward Sandford Martin

Some stories about Thanksgiving date as far back as 1621 with a group of Native Americans and Pilgrims from the Mayflower…later in 1863 during the American Civil War, Thanksgiving was named a national holiday. During those times, much of the celebrating had to do with the bountiful harvest and preparation for the winter months. They didn’t celebrate for one afternoon, they celebrated for days…rejoicing in the results of their labor in the fields and gave thanks for the good harvest, which meant they would survive the cold winter months.

Today, we still celebrate, but what we celebrate is much different. While some the traditions may be the same, we are not impacted by whether or not we were of able body to grow and harvest a winter supply of food. Today, much of Thanksgiving is centered on an attitude of gratitude…what we have to be grateful for in the moment, and in the months that have past. And it is in the moments of personal reflection that we can gain much insight, about ourselves, our experiences, and the footsteps we leave behind.

While you gather tomorrow with your friends and loved ones, I hope you will take an extra few minutes in between the cooking and drinking to reflect upon your life…what are you truly grateful for? I know for me, I have so much to be grateful for, especially those of you reading this. I would not be where I am today if it was not for the many families we have helped over nearly thirty years. I am grateful for your trust in me as your real estate advisor. It is with an attitude of gratitude that I wish you a very happy and healthy Thanksgiving – Nate

Nate's Monday Morning Message

by Nate Martinez

Nate’s Monday Morning Message

Welcome to this week’s edition of Nate’s Monday Morning Message…this week is one of my favorite times of the year, especially during the holiday season. Regardless of where we are in life, whether it is full of joy and prosperity or filled with turmoil and stress, we are given the opportunity to be grateful…Thanksgiving is just one day on the calendar, but it is a significant day when we come together, and express our sincerest forms of gratitude.

As much as I love the traditions of Thanksgiving, the wonderful food, quality family time, and of course all day football! In reality, every day can be Thanksgiving if we take the time to recognize all that we have to be grateful for…every single day. So in the spirit of Thanksgiving, I want to tell you how grateful I am that you are a part of my life, both professionally and personally. I would not be where I am today, if it weren’t for each of you…so a big THANK YOU!!! Many blessings for a wonderful holiday…Happy Thanksgivings!

Nate’s Monday Morning Message

“Though I often looked for one, I finally had to admit that there could be no cure for Paris.” – Paula McLain

Welcome to this week’s edition of Nate’s Monday Morning Message…our hearts are heavy following the tragedy that took place in Paris. It is in a time such as this, that we are filled with uncertainty, anger and deep sadness. However, it is also a time that we can rise above and become better for having endured this experience. To those of you who have been directly impacted by the attacks on Paris, I want to express my sincerest condolences. My thoughts and prayers are with the people of France, and all those whose lives are forever changed. This week, let’s make it a point to tell the people we love, how important they are…give a kind smile to a stranger…and take a few moments to enjoy how precious this life really is. Make it a great week!

ENCOURAGEMENT CORNER

A Moral Story About Character

A long time ago there was a boy. He was smart, talented and handsome. However, he was very selfish and his temper was so difficult, that nobody wanted to be friends with him. Often he got angry and said various hurtful things to people around him.

The boy‘s parents very concerned about his bad temper. They considered what they could do and one day the father had an idea. He called his son and gave him a hammer and a bag of nails. The father said: “Every time you get angry, take a nail and drive into that old fence as hard as you can.”

The fence was very tough and the hammer was heavy, nevertheless the boy was so furious that during the very first day he has driven 37 nails.

Day after day, week after week, the number of nails was gradually decreasing. After some time, the boy started to understand that holding his temper is easier that driving nails into the fence.

One day the boy didn‘t need hammer and nails anymore as he learned to hold his temper perfectly. So he came to his father and told about his achievement. “Now every time, when you hold your temper all day long, pull out one nail“.

Much time has passed. At last the boy could be proud of himself as all the nails were gone. When he came to his father and told about this, he offered to come and take a careful look at the fence. “You did a good job, my son, but pay your attention to the holes that left from the nails. The fence will never be the same. The same happens when your say hurtful things to people, as your words leave scars in their hearts like those holes in the fence.” The moral: we need to treat everyone with love and respect, because it doesn‘t matter, that you say you are sorry, the scars will not disappear.

Nate's Monday Morning Message

by Nate Martinez

Nate’s Monday Morning Message

Welcome to this week’s edition of Nate’s Monday Morning Message…last week I had the privilege of attending the fall Broker/Owner retreat for RE/MAX in beautiful Sedona, Arizona. In the opening session, we were asked to share our name, which office we were from and if money were no object what would we do. Many people said things like travel or expensive purchases like a baseball team or a private island. One answer that stood out to me was time. If money were no object, she would buy time. Time does seem to be an obstacle for many of us, and usually there is not enough of it…from every day to-do lists to those facing a terminal illness with only weeks to live.

The answer of time has caused me to think a little more about the question…if money were no object or more importantly, if there were no limitations, struggles or obstacles in your way, what would you be capable of doing? If you had all the money you needed to do whatever it was that you could only dream about, what would it be? In reality, we don’t need unlimited funds to start pursuing our dreams and goals now…where there is a dream, a hope, a passion…a way will be made. All you have to do is dare to dream. This week I challenge you to ask yourself: if money were no object, what would you do? Make it a great week!

ENCOURAGEMENT CORNER

There was a boy, whose family was very wealthy. One day his father took him on a trip to the country, where he aimed to show his son, how poor people live. So they arrived to a farm of a very poor family, as he considered. They spent there several days. On their return, the father asked his son, did he like the trip.

“Oh, it was great, dad” – the boy replied. “Did you notice how poor people live?” “Yeah, I did,” said the boy. The father asked his son to tell in more details about his impressions from their trip.

“Well, we have only one dog, and they have four of them. In our garden there is a pool, while they have a river that has no end. We‘ve got expensive lanterns, but they have stars above their heads at night. We have the patio, and they have the whole horizon. We have only a small piece of land, while they have the endless fields. We buy food, but they grow it. We have high fence for protection of our property, and they don‘t need it, as their friends protect them.”

The father was stunned. He could not say a word.

Then the boy added: “Thank you, dad, for letting me see how poor we are.”

This story shows that the true wealth as well as happiness is not measured by materials things. Love, friendship and freedom are far more valuable.

Nate's Monday Morning Message

Nate’s Monday Morning Message

“Life is 10 percent what happens to you and 90 percent how you react to it.” Charles R. Swindoll

Welcome to this week’s edition of Nate’s Monday Morning Message…90 percent of what happens to us is merely our emotions or how we label what we perceive…is it good or bad? Stressful or joyful? Rewarding or draining? However we label it, we ultimately get to choose. And I hope as you move about your week, you will think about this quote and how you can choose your emotions or reaction to what is happening around you. Remember, life is neither good nor bad…only your perception to your reality. Make it a great week!

ENCOURAGEMENT CORNER

The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
