Nate's Monday Morning Message

Nate’s Monday Morning Message

Welcome to Nate’s Monday Morning Message…I hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration, and that your bellies and hearts are full with the joy that surrounds this time of year.  Like it or not, the holiday season is officially here! In preparing for today’s message I found this quote which I thought was a beautiful reminder that we could all use:

“Christmas is the spirit of giving without a thought of getting. It is happiness because we see joy in people. It is forgetting self and finding time for others. It is discarding the meaningless and stressing the true values.” - Thomas S. Monson

It is easy to get caught up in the shopping, the decorating, the parties…and far too often we find ourselves stressed out instead of enjoying the true meaning of the season. I encourage you to take a deep breathe, slow down and re-evaluate how you want to spend the last few weeks of the year. The choice is yours. Let’s make it a great week!

9 FUN HOLIDAY TRADITIONS FROM AROUND THE WORLD

1. KFC, Japan: Christmas is not a national holiday in Japan, but this tradition dates back to the 1970s. On Christmas Eve, every KFC in Japan is overflowing with people eating fried chicken.

2. Krampus in Austria, Germany, and Hungary: Krampus is rooted in Germanic folklore, and today young people dress up as Krampus and wander the streets in Austria, Germany and Hungary in hopes that they will punish those who are on the naughty list!

3. Caroling with a Dead Horse, Wales: meant to bring good luck, one person dresses up using an actual dead horse skull. A group of people go from house to house singing carols, and in return they are rewarded with food and drink.

4. Spider Webs for Good Luck, Ukraine: the tradition started with a poor widow who had nothing to decorate their Evergreen tree with. The woman cried herself to sleep, while the spiders listened on that night. In the morning when the sun hit the tree, they were surprised to see it was covered with gold and silver thread that shimmered in the light.

5. Hide all the Brooms, Norway: according to legend, the evil spirits come out at night, and witches want brooms. On Christmas Eve, the Norwegians hide all their brooms.

6. The Christmas Log from Catalonia, Spain: a wood log with legs, a face and a little red hat! People leave food, and presents for Little Tio deNadal.

7. Roller Skating to Mass, Venezuela: sounds like a fun way to get to church, right? The streets are closed in the city of Caracas so the residents can roller skate their way to midnight mass on Christmas Eve.

8. SantaCon, San Francisco: originally started in San Francisco, this tradition is now a worldwide pub crawl. A convention for Santas; with important guidelines should you want to participate!

9. Night of the Radishes, Oaxaca, Mexico: radishes are grown especially for this event, and remain on display through Christmas day. It is hailed as the most impressive display of carved vegetables in the world!

WORDS OF INSPIRATION

“The spirit of Christmas is the spirit of love and of generosity and of goodness. It illuminates the picture window of the soul, and we look out upon the world's busy life and become more interested in people than in things.” - Thomas S. Monson

“Christmas isn't a season. It's a feeling.” - Edna Ferber

“He who has not Christmas in his heart will never find it under a tree.” - Roy L. Smith

“Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful.” - Norman Vincent Peale

“Christmas is the day that holds all time together.” -  Alexander Smith

Nate's Monday Morning Message

by Nate Martinez

Nate’s Monday Morning Message

Welcome to Nate’s Monday Morning Message…what a great weekend! I want to thank all our clients, family and friends who helped us celebrate thirty years in real estate over the last two days. If someone had asked me thirty years ago, what my life might look like, I would not have imagined it quite like this. I am truly blessed and honored to have been surrounded by so many amazing people, and to have earned the trust and confidence of close to 6,000 families who have bought or sold a home with my team.

As we prepare for the Thanksgiving holiday, I have much to be thankful for. It is a surreal feeling to look around a room and see the impact that my life has had on so many others. I made a commitment to make a different life for my children, but little did I know how far that commitment would extend – and how privileged I am to have witnessed it over the weekend.

Thank you to our many clients who came to Blackstone Country Club on Saturday night. It was great to connect with you, and some of you we have not seen in years. And to my team – thank you for our family reunion. Some of the best people on the planet somehow came together and worked on my team. I am truly blessed to have been able to be a part of your lives; I am better man because of each of you! A special thanks to Larry Gosnell and Tina Powers who flew in to Phoenix just to help us celebrate.

In closing, I want to wish each of you a very happy Thanksgiving. If this weekend has taught me anything, is that we matter…our actions, our decisions, our commitments…they leave a mark on the world. Make it count. Happy Thanksgiving!

Nate's Monday Morning Message

Nate's Monday Morning Message

“If you are really thankful, what do you do? You share.” W. Clement Stone

Welcome to Nate’s Monday Morning Message…last week we made history with the race for presidency, and whether you are happy or not about the outcome, this is one election that will go down in the history books. I see lots of division happening on social media outlets, and in the news; opinions are strong and emotions are inflamed. This week, I would like to encourage you to take a media time-out and redirect your thoughts.

We are quickly approaching the Thanksgiving holiday and this is the perfect opportunity for us to shift our energy, and focus on the light instead of the dark. Despite the turmoil, confusion and fear there is much to be grateful for. I picked this quote for today, because I think it is an important reminder. What can you do this week to make a difference? What can you share or give that will be remembered?

My team and I, as well as RE/MAX Professionals are hosting a food drive to benefit St. Mary’s. Our goal is to help those who are less fortunate have a meal on Thanksgiving Day. If you would like to join our cause, you can drop by any one of our six office locations with a donation, or you can donate online at: http://rem.ax/2feX7aE. Let’s make a difference this week!

FUN FACTS ABOUT THANKSGIVING

2. In 2001, the US Postal Service issued a commemorative stamp that was designed by artist Margaret Cusack, which resembled traditional folk-art with the phrase “We Give Thanks.”

3. The American Automobile Association (AAA) estimates that 42.2 million Americans travel fifty miles or more on Thanksgiving weekend.

4. The National Turkey Federation estimated that 46 million turkeys are eaten at Thanksgiving.

5. Nearly 88 percent of Americans eat turkey for Thanksgiving.

6. The largest pumpkin pie ever baked weighed 2,020 pounds and measured over twelve feet long, according to the Guinness Book of World Records.

Nate’s Monday Morning Message

Welcome to Nate’s Monday Morning Message! We are making history this week here in the United States, and I hope each of you who are eligible to vote will be doing so. This election has been raised a lot of awareness and whether you are red or blue, everyone has an opinion. The right to vote is something that makes our country great and even in a controversial race such as this one, every vote matters. In 1839 a gubernatorial election in Massachusetts was decided by two votes. In 1974 a race for Senate in New Hampshire was decided by two votes. And in 2008, an Alaskan congressional race was decided by one single vote. Be a part of history, and cast your vote tomorrow!

ENCOURAGEMENT CORNER

7 Reasons You Should Vote by The Huffington Post

1.) It is not just the president on the ballot.

2.) Higher turnout makes our democracy more representative.

3.) To the voter go the spoils.

4.) The margin of victory can be important.

5.) Even a vote for a third party can have an impact.

6.) Voting is a right generations of Americans struggled to win – and people in other countries are still fighting for.

7.) Voting is your voice.

“My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” - John F. Kennedy
