Nate's Monday Morning Message - Happy New Year!

by Nate Martinez

Nate’s Monday Morning Message

Welcome to this week’s Monday Morning Message…it’s the last day of 2018, which means there is still a small window of time to mark off your list, hit that final goal or connect with a long-lost friend or family member. As we close the chapter on another year, I wanted to share the lyrics to Elton John’s song The Circle of Life, which is perfect timing for today’s message. Let's welcome the New Year by celebrating the circle... and miracle of life! Let’s make it a great week!

ENCOURAGEMENT CORNER

The Circle of Life (Music by Elton John, Lyrics by Tim Rice, From the soundtrack of "The Lion King”)

From the day we arrive on the planet
And blinking, step into the sun
There's more to see than can ever be seen
More to do than can ever be done

There's far too much to take in here
More to find than can ever be found
But the sun rolling high
Through the sapphire sky
Keeps great and small on the endless round

It's the circle of life
And it moves us all
Through despair and hope
Through faith and love

Till we find our place
On the path unwinding
In the circle
The circle of life

It's the circle of life
And it moves us all
Through despair and hope
Through faith and love

Till we find our place
On the path unwinding
In the circle
The circle of life

WORDS OF INSPIRATION

The new year stands before us, like a chapter in a book, waiting to be written. We can help write that story by setting goals. Melody Beattie

And now we welcome the new year. Full of things that have never been. Rainer Maria Rilke

Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right. Oprah Winfrey

ENCOURAGEMENT CORNER

“The House of Christmas” by G.K. Chesterton

…This world is wild as an old wives' tale,
And strange the plain things are,
The earth is enough and the air is enough
For our wonder and our war;
But our rest is as far as the fire-drake swings
And our peace is put in impossible things
Where clashed and thundered unthinkable wings
Round an incredible star.

To an open house in the evening
Home shall men come,
To an older place than Eden
And a taller town than Rome.
To the end of the way of the wandering star,
To the things that cannot be and that are,
To the place where God was homeless
And all men are at home.

WORDS OF INSPIRATION

“The theme of 'A Christmas Story' is that you can count on Christmas - that everybody has a Christmas story. Everybody has that time in the holiday season that they remember.” - Marc Platt

“Christmas is a season not only of rejoicing but of reflection.” - Winston Churchill

“Maybe Christmas, the Grinch thought, doesn't come from a store.” - Dr. Seuss

“Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful.” - Norman Vincent Peale

Nate's Monday Morning Message

Nate’s Monday Morning Message

Welcome to this week’s Monday Morning Message…I trust that each of you reading this are enjoying the holiday season so far! For us there have been plenty of decorations, parties and holiday deliciousness! The story below highlights something important that I think is timely for this week…what we focus on is what we hear, see or feel. Focus on seeing or hearing the positive, you will begin to see more of it appear in your life. On the contrary, focus on the negative, and you will get more of the same. This time of year, is filled with all kinds of things to hear, see or feel…how will you choose? Let’s make it a great week!

ENCOURAGEMENT CORNER

The Cricket! Author Unknown

A Native American and his friend were in downtown New York City, walking near Times Square in Manhattan. It was during the noon lunch hour and the streets were filled with people. Cars were honking their horns, taxicabs were squealing around corners, sirens were wailing, and the sounds of the city were almost deafening.

Suddenly, the Native American said, "I hear a cricket." His friend said, "What? You must be crazy. You couldn't possibly hear a cricket in all of this noise!"

"No, I'm sure of it," the Native American said, "I heard a cricket." "That's crazy," said the friend.

The Native American listened carefully for a moment, and then walked across the street to a big cement planter where some shrubs were growing. He looked into the bushes, beneath the branches, and sure enough, he located a small cricket. His friend was utterly amazed.

"That's incredible," said his friend. "You must have super-human ears!"

"No," said the Native American. "My ears are no different from yours. It all depends on what you're listening for."

"But that can't be!" said the friend. "I could never hear a cricket in this noise."

"Yes, it's true," came the reply. "It depends on what is really important to you. Here, let me show you."

He reached into his pocket, pulled out a few coins, and discreetly dropped them on the sidewalk. And then, with the noise of the crowded street still blaring in their ears, they noticed every head within twenty feet turn and look to see if the money that tinkled on the pavement was theirs. "See what I mean?" asked the Native American. "It all depends on what's important to you."

Nate's Monday Morning Message

Nate’s Monday Morning Message

Welcome to this week’s Monday Morning Message…today I want to share a word with you, that I think happens to be rather fitting this time of year: believe.

Children are a great example of belief, especially when they are filled with the magic of the holiday season. But you don’t have to be a child to believe…I hope that after you read the encouragement corner below, that you will never lose this magical idea: believe. Let’s make it a great week!

ENCOURAGEMENT CORNER

Believe (author unknown)

I believe we have not come this far to fail or give up now.
I believe we are meant to go through storms before we see the beautiful sun.
I believe the kingdom we live in is unshakable.
I believe family become friends and friends become family.
I believe all my hard work will pay off.
I believe 2019 will be the best year of my life so far.
I believe I have the power to change anything I do not like.
I believe collectively we are stronger than we are apart.
I believe love is the solution to all problems.
I believe time brings about opportunity and thought.
I believe I have been put on this earth and in this position for a purpose.
I believe I am capable of anything as long as I have the desire to do it.
I believe I am who I am because of all the people in my life.

What do you believe?

WORDS OF INSPIRATION

Nate's Monday Morning Message

by Nate Martinez

Nate’s Monday Morning Message

Welcome to this week’s Monday Morning Message…today and every day, we have the opportunity to be optimistic and excited about what a new week, a new month, and a soon a New Year will bring. What I do know is one thing: the newness in our life will only be what we make it to be. We cannot change some situations, but we can change our reaction to it.

We cannot change some people, but we can change how we think about them and how they have an impact on us. We cannot change a lot of things, but we can change a lot of things. Make this the week you set your new course. This is the week to make miracles happen or at least start to happen. Let’s make it a great week!

ENCOURAGEMENT CORNER

One day a farmer found an eagle’s egg and brought it home. He placed the eagle’s egg together with some chicken eggs to be hatched. The little eagle was hatched together with the other chicks. He began his life like the other chicks and the mother hen. He followed the ways of the chicken; he ate, walked, crowed, and moved like all the other chickens. One day an eagle flying nearby saw the little eagle mingling together with the chickens. He flew down to talk to the young eagle. All the chickens ran away because they were terrified of the eagle.

The young eagle also tried to run but was stopped by the adult eagle. The adult eagle asked, “What are you doing here with the chickens? You are an eagle just like me. You can fly like me and your home is high up among the cliffs.” The young eagle said, “I am a chicken and this is where I belong, together with the other chickens. See, I cannot fly!” The adult eagle then grabbed the eagle in his claws, and with all his might proceeded to fly to the nearby cliffs. The adult eagle said, “I am going to teach you how to fly.” The flying lesson began and to his bewilderment, the young eagle discovered that he could fly.

Of course, he fell many times before succeeding. He discovered his true self with the help of the adult eagle, and never again went back to the chickens. We are all born EAGLES and are able to soar high into the heavens. We are not CHICKENS that stay on the ground looking for food, just for the day. We have a higher potential within us and we should realize it. In fact, we should be successful like the adult eagle, so that we can in turn teach other young eagles, who think they are chickens to fly. Someone once said: “The only way to help the poor is not to be poor yourself.”
