RE/MAX National Housing Report for April: What do the numbers mean for your home's value?

“March is marking a strong kick-off for this year’s home-selling season. After a long winter, demand for homes remains high, with large numbers of home buyers coming into the market. Last year was one of the best years in real estate in a long time, and March sales are pushing even higher. Low inventory is still a stubborn issue in many markets, but overall it doesn’t seem to be moving prices significantly higher.” – Dave Liniger, RE/MAX COE, Chairman of the Board and Co-Founder

Nate's Monday Morning Message

Nate’s Monday Morning Message

The world lost one of the greatest musicians of our time last week and for me personally, it was a sad, sad day. Welcome to this week’s edition of Nate’s Monday Morning Message…I have been listening to Prince’s music for most of my life…his musical talent and lyrical genius has been influential to say the least. After reminiscing in my own private mourning, I decided to focus not on the significant loss, but on the extraordinary gift he has given the world. If we were to study his legacy, beyond the creativity and musical talent, we would find that Prince taught us something very important…to dream big, be bold and never, ever hold back, regardless of where you come from. He was larger than life and embraced the notion that anything was possible. This week, let’s honor his memory by living life in the now, to the fullest and taking a chance on something we once thought was unattainable. Let’s make it a great week!

ENCOURAGMENT CORNER

It Couldn’t Be Done, by Edgar A. Guest

Somebody said that it couldn't be done,
But he with a chuckle replied
That maybe it couldn't, but he would be one
Who wouldn't say so "till he tried."
So he buckled right in with the
trace of a grin on his face.
If he worried, he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it.

Somebody scoffed: "Oh, you'll never do that;
At least no one ever has done it."
But he took off his coat and took off his hat
And the first thing he knew he'd begun it.
With the lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
Without any doubting or quiddit,
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it.

There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure;
There are thousands to point out to you, one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.
But just buckle right in with a bit of a grin,
Then take off your coat and go to it;
Just start in to sing as you tackle the thing
That cannot be done, and you'll do it.

Nate’s Monday Morning Message

“What the caterpillar calls the end of the world the master calls a butterfly.” - Richard Bach

Welcome to this week’s edition of Nate’s Monday Morning Message…change is the one thing in life that is inevitable and just like the caterpillar, we can think it is the end or we can embrace the new possibilities like the butterfly. What changes do you need to make, or perhaps are being made for you that you need to accept or let go of? Are you the caterpillar or the butterfly? You get to choose. Let’s make it a great week!

ENCOURAGMENT CORNER

“I Can Make It Happen!”

History abounds with tales of experts who were convinced that the ideas, plans, and projects of others could never be achieved. However, accomplishment came to those who said, "I can make it happen."

The Italian sculptor Agostino d'Antonio worked diligently on a large piece of marble. Unable to produce his desired masterpiece, he lamented, "I can do nothing with it." Other sculptors also worked this difficult piece of marble, but to no avail. Michelangelo discovered the stone and visualized the possibilities in it. His "I-can-make-it-happen" attitude resulted in one of the world's masterpieces - David.

The experts of Spain concluded that Columbus's plans to discover a new and shorter route to India was virtually impossible. Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand ignored the report of the experts. "I can make it happen," Columbus persisted. And he did. Everyone knew the world was flat, but not Columbus. The Nina, the Pinta, the Santa Maria, along with Columbus and his small band of followers, sailed to "impossible" new lands and thriving resources.

Even the great Thomas Alva Edison discouraged his friend, Henry Ford, from pursuing his fledgling idea of a motorcar. Convinced of the worthlessness of the idea, Edison invited Ford to come and work for him. Ford remained committed and tirelessly pursued his dream. Although his first attempt resulted in a vehicle without reverse gear, Henry Ford knew he could make it happen. And, of course, he did.

"Forget it," the experts advised Madame Curie. They agreed radium was a scientifically impossible idea. However, Marie Curie insisted, "I can make it happen."

Let's not forget our friends Orville and Wilbur Wright. Journalists, friends, armed forces specialists, and even their father laughed at the idea of an airplane. "What a silly and insane way to spend money. Leave flying to the birds," they jeered. "Sorry," the Wright brothers responded. "We have a dream, and we can make it happen." As a result, a place called Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, became the setting for the launching of their "ridiculous" idea.

Finally, as you read these accounts under the magnificent lighting of your environment, consider the plight of Benjamin Franklin. He was admonished to stop the foolish experimenting with lighting. What an absurdity and waste of time! Why, nothing could outdo the fabulous oil lamp. Thank goodness Franklin knew he could make it happen.

You too can make it happen!

Nate’s Monday Morning Message

“The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be kindled.” – Plutarch

Welcome to this week’s edition of Nate’s Monday Morning Message…the mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be kindled. Every day we learn something new, we fill our minds with a variety of media, emotions, thoughts…sometimes we are intentional, however most of the time we put life on autopilot and coast through. What if we had more moments where we were intentional in what we filled our minds with? How would that change our day, our week, our lives? This week I challenge you to be intentional in your actions, in your thoughts and what you fill your mind with. Kindle to the fire that sits between your shoulders and let’s see what a difference we can make. Let’s make it a great week!

Nate's Monday Morning Message

Nate’s Monday Morning Message

“Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family.” - Kofi Annan

Welcome to this week’s edition of Nate’s Monday Morning Message…I was speaking with a friend the other day who is considering a new path in life, but it requires two different forms of education both of which will take a big commitment of time and money. He questioned whether or not it was ridiculous to consider making such a change in his life at his age, and what the financial impact would be. It got me thinking…I wonder how many of you are in the same boat? Longing for a dream job but too afraid to go back to school? Or holding yourself back from a passion because you do not think you possess the skill necessary?

In reality, we are never too old to learn something new or to stake out on a new adventure, whether it is personal or professional. Any of you who know me, know that I am always the first one to sign up for a new class or a new designation. I have attended every RE/MAX convention in my career because I value the educational opportunities it provides me. This week, I challenge you to step outside your comfort zone and sign up for that class you have been thinking about taking. Let’s make it a great week!

ENCOURAGEMENT CORNER

One cowardly person came to a master of martial arts and asked to teach him bravery. The master looked at him and said: “I will teach you only with one condition: one month you will have to live in a big city and tell every person that you meet on your way that you are a coward. You will have to say it loudly, openly and looking straight into the person’s eyes.”

The person got really sad, because this task seemed very scary to him. For a couple of days he was very sad and thoughtful, but to live with his cowardice was so unbearable that he travelled to the city to accomplish his mission.

At first, when meeting the passers, he quailed, lost his speech and couldn’t contact anyone. But he needed to finish the master’s task, so he began to overcome himself. When he came up to his first passer to tell about his cowardice, it seemed to him that he would die from fear. But his voice sounded louder and more confident with every passing day. Suddenly came a moment, when the man caught himself thinking that he’s not scared anymore, and the further he continued doing the master’s task, the more convinced he was that the fear was abandoning him. That way a month had passed. The person came back to the master, bowed to him and said: “Thank you, teacher. I finished your task. Now I’m not afraid anymore. But how did you know that this strange task will help me?”

“The thing is that cowardice is only a habit. And by doing the things that scare us, we can destroy the stereotypes and come to a conclusion that you came to. And now you know that bravery is also a habit. And if you want to make bravery a part of yourself,  you need to move forward into the fear. Then the fear will go away, and bravery will take its place.”
