Welcome to this week’s edition of Nate's Monday Message! I want to take this opportunity to wish each of you reading this who are mother’s - including those who are step-moms and grandmother’s doing double duty - a very happy Mother’s Day celebration this coming weekend.

I also want to give a big shout out to my daughter Brandi for being an amazing mother to my granddaughter, Hayden. It is a joy I can’t describe to see my child raising her own child with such grace, confidence, love and compassion. To my partner Tonya, who is the mother of my youngest daughter Mila, I want to thank you for your constant dedication to our family, to our home and the efforts you put into raising our daughter to be a bright, loving, ambition young lady. I could not do it without you.

Lastly to my own Mother, I want to say thank you for helping me to become the man I am today. I know it was not an easy journey raising me and my siblings by yourself and I want you to know that there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t thank you for your dedication, love and strength.

I hope that you will each take a moment this week and over the weekend to thank your own mom on this Mother’s Day celebration. Let’s make it a great week!

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend and that you found some time to relax and refresh before hitting the ground running for another amazing week. Remember the reasons why you work so hard: accomplishment, satisfaction, provide for your family, build wealth, charter new waters, fine tune your skills, competition, etc.  

Please take five minutes this Monday morning to remember and really think about why you do what you do. The purpose behind your actions is what will get you through difficult times. The goals that you set are the markers of success and achievement. They will guide you on the journey. The actions you take daily are what move you forward little by little to achieve all that you desire. Welcome to this week’s edition of Nate's Monday Message! I hope everyone enjoyed the Easter holiday weekend! Let's start out this week taking a few minutes to examine where we are in both our personal and business lives. 

Do we have a stated purpose for both? Do we have a plan to achieve the result desired? Are we working each and every day on the actions that our plan calls for? Are we happy? Do we need to make some changes or work a little harder or smarter to achieve our goals? Are we allowing negative people or thoughts to influence us?

We decide what we will or will not do. We have control over what thoughts will or will not influence us. We choose to act the way we do every minute of every day. If we choose to, we have the power to change anything in our lives for the better. I would love to hear from you on what you plan to do this week to get you closer to your purpose in life! ENCOURAGEMENT CORNER

The Rocks and Sand Experiment

A philosophy professor stood before his class and had some items in front of him. When class began, wordlessly he picked up a large empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with rocks, rocks about 2" in diameter.

He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles, of course, rolled into the open areas between the rocks.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was. The students laughed. The professor picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. "Now," said the professor, "I want you to recognize that this is your life. The rocks are the important things - your family, your partner, your health, your children - anything that is so important to you that if it were lost, you would be nearly destroyed. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, your car.”

“The sand is everything else. The small stuff. If you put the sand into the jar first, there is no room for the pebbles or the rocks. The same goes for your life. If you spend all your energy and time on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out dancing. There will always be time to go to work, clean the house, give a dinner party and fix the disposal.”

Welcome to this week’s edition of Nate's Monday Message! Today I want to write about persistence. The challenge of doing anything meaningful in life, is being able to do what is necessary over and over and not giving up, even with it gets hard. This is the part that we must focus on daily. A plan without action is worthless. We need enough persistence to continuously work the plan day-in and day-out. Persistence will get us to where we want to be…and what need to achieve a big dream. Growing Good Corn, Author Unknown

There once was a farmer who grew award-winning corn. Each year he entered his corn in the state fair where it won a blue ribbon.

One year a newspaper reporter interviewed him and learned something interesting about how he grew it. The reporter discovered that the farmer shared his seed corn with his neighbors.

"How can you afford to share your best seed corn with your neighbors when they are entering corn in competition with yours each year?" the reporter asked.

"Why sir," said the farmer," didn't you know? The wind picks up pollen from the ripening corn and swirls it from field to field. If my neighbors grow inferior corn, cross-pollination will steadily degrade the quality of my corn. If I am to grow good corn, I must help my neighbors grow good corn."

He is very much aware of the connectedness of life. His corn cannot improve unless his neighbor's corn also improves.

So it is with our lives. Those who choose to live in peace must help their neighbors to live in peace. Those who choose to live well must help others to live well, for the value of a life is measured by the lives it touches. And those who choose to be happy must help others to find happiness, for the welfare of each is bound up with the welfare of all.

The lesson for each of us is this: if we are to grow good corn, we must help our neighbors grow good corn.

Are you working a plan to achieve them? We’ve got to work a little harder than the competition, innovate, create and then level up. But remember to smile and have fun, be caring and compassionate, and make a difference. Let’s make it a great week!

ENCOURAGEMENT CORNER

Just for Today!

1.   Just for today I will be happy.  This assumes that what Abraham Lincoln said is true, that "most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be." Happiness is from within; it is not a matter of externals.

2.   Just for today I will try to adjust myself to what is, and not try to adjust everything to my own desires. I will take my family, my business, and my luck as they come and fit myself to them.

3.   Just for today I will take care of my body. I will exercise it, care for it, nourish it, not abuse nor neglect it, so that it will be a perfect machine for my bidding.

4.   Just for today I will try to strengthen my mind. I will learn something useful. I will not be a mental loafer. I will read something that requires effort, thought and concentration.

5.   Just for today I will exercise my soul in three ways; I will do somebody a good turn and not get found out. I will do at least two things I don't want to do as William James suggests, just for exercise.

6.   Just for today I will be agreeable. I will look as well as I can, dress as becomingly as possible, talk low, act courteously, be liberal with praise, criticize not at all, nor fault with anything and not try to regulate nor improve anyone.

7.   Just for today I will try to live through this day only, not to tackle my whole life problem at once.  I can do things for twelve hours that would appall me if I had to keep them up for a lifetime.

8.  Just for today I will have a program. I will write down what I expect to do every hour.  I may not follow it exactly, but I will have it.  It will eliminate two pests, hurry and indecision.

9.   Just for today I will have a quiet half hour all by myself and relax. In this half hour sometimes I will think of God, so as to get a little more perspective into my life.

10.   Just for today I will be unafraid, especially I will not be afraid to be happy, to enjoy what is beautiful, to love, and to believe that those I love, love me.

If we want to develop a mental attitude that will bring us peace and happiness, here is rule # 1: Think and act cheerfully, and you will feel cheerful.

Today, I want to talk to you about fairness and understanding. Many of us heard as children that "life just is not fair." I am not sure that I agree, because you see life is what you make of it, and fairness is subjective. We all know people who are deliberate, thoughtful, and fair. We also know people who are non-deliberate, non-thoughtful and not very fair.

I would encourage you to take a look at yourself and ask if you are deliberate, thoughtful, and fair. Regardless of what life has done for you up until today, the future is a clean canvas and you are the painter. Make wise choices and be fair and understanding. Life will bring back to you what you give to others. Let’s make it a great week!

It may not be their dream, but if it is yours then go for it and give it your all. Obstacles and challenges will get in the way. People will try to throw you off or hold you back. It will not always go as planned. But you must be strong enough to stand up for what you believe and fight with all the might and vigor you can muster! If you want it bad enough then go for it. There was once a boy who wanted to seek the secret of success. One day he approached a wise man living up in the mountain. When he found the wise man at the hut, he asked "Wise man, can you tell me the secret to becoming successful in life?" The wise man was silent for a bit. After a moment, the wise man led the boy down to the river. They kept walking into the river until the boy was fully submerged in the water. The boy struggled and the wise man did not help him. The wise man held his head under the water. After a while, the wise man pulled the boy out of the water and headed back up to the mountain. At the hut the wise man asked the boy what he desired most when his head was submerged in the water. To this the boy quickly responded, "Of course, I wanted to breathe, you old fool!" To which the wise man replied, "Son, if you desire success as much as you wanted to breathe, then you would have found the true secret of success."

Success is a matter of choice. If we have enough strong reasons, there is nothing we cannot do. Once we have the reasons, we will surely find the way to do it.
