Nate's Monday Morning Message - Happy Memorial Day!

by Nate Martinez

Nate's Monday Morning Message - Happy Memorial Day!

Welcome to this week’s edition of Nate's Monday Message! Today, in honor of Memorial Day and remembrance of what is important to us, please take a few minutes to think about the country we all love and care about. Think about how we have gotten to this point as a nation. Think about all the struggle and sacrifice that has come before us. Think about all the brave and selfless men and women that have given their lives for us to have the freedoms we enjoy today. Think about the families that have struggled while their sons and daughters are away from home. Think about what it means to you to have the limitless possibilities for yourself and your families because we live in this great country. Think about the responsibilities you have to maintain this greatness and the character of this country we all love. We can all do something - what will you do?

I love my country - THANK YOU to all the men and women who have and do serve to protect and defend the liberties, the freedom, the opportunities, and the future of this wonderful land. Happy Memorial Day! Let’s make it a great week!

ENCOURAGEMENT CORNER

Freedom Is Not Free
By LCDR Kelly Strong, USCG - Copyright 1981

I watched the flag pass by one day,
It fluttered in the breeze.
A young Service man saluted it,
And then he stood at ease.

I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
With hair cut square and eyes alert
He'd stand out in any crowd.

I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil
How many mothers' tears?

How many pilots' planes shot down?
How many died at sea
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
No, freedom isn't free.

I heard the sound of Taps one night,
When everything was still,
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill.

I wondered just how many times
That Taps had meant "Amen,"
When a flag had draped a coffin.
Of a brother or a friend.

I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives.

I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea
Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
No, freedom isn't free.

Nate's Monday Morning Message

Nate's Monday Morning Message

Welcome to this week’s edition of Nate's Monday Message! Over the weekend, as I spent time with my family it got me thinking about how we spend our time whether it is at work or at play or simple hanging out at home. Are we really making the best use of our time each and every day? Are there times when if we planned a little better, we could get more done? Do we wish we had more time to spend on the things we truly love? There is a solution to maximizing our time.

Set a goal, create a plan, and then accomplish it. This will be our challenge for this week. If you found 30 minutes a day, what would you do with it? Think long and hard about this answer as this will be what you think about while figuring out what you can change around, do differently, or eliminate from your schedule. Time is the one thing that is equal among all of us. How we use it is what makes all the difference in the world. Use it wisely for once it is gone it can never be replaced. Let’s make it a great week!

Take Time

Take time to laugh
It is the music of the soul.

Take time to think
It is the source of power.

Take time to play
It is the source of perpetual youth.

Take time to read
It is the fountain of wisdom.

Take time to pray
It is the greatest power on earth.

Take time to love and be loved
It is a God-given privilege.

Take time to be friendly
It is the road to happiness

Take time to give
It is too short a day to be selfish

Nate's Monday Morning Message

by Nate Martinez

Nate's Monday Morning Message

Welcome to this week’s edition of Nate's Monday Message! I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day celebration! As we prepare ourselves for another amazing week, let us keep in mind that what we choose to do with our time is completely up to us. We can choose to be in a great mood, or we can choose not to. We can choose to focus on the things in our lives we have control over, or we can choose not to. We can choose to work harder, smarter, and more creatively than our competition or we can choose not to. What do you have control over and what will you do about it? The wonderful thing about life is that it is all up to us. Focus on actions and the results will follow. Let’s make it a great week!

ENCOURAGEMENT CORNER

We shall do much in the years to come,
But what have we done today?

We shall give out gold in a princely sum,
But what did we give today?

We shall lift the heart and dry the tear,
We shall plant a hope in the place of fear,

We shall speak the words of love and cheer,
But what did we speak today ?

We shall be so kind in the after while,
But what have we done today?

We shall bring to each lonely life a smile,
But what have we brought today?

We shall give to truth a grander birth,
And to steadfast faith a deeper worth,

We shall feed the hungering souls of earth,
But whom have we fed today?

We shall reap such joys in the by and by,
But what have we sown today?

We shall build us mansions in the sky,
But what have we built today?

`Tis sweet in the idle dreams to bask;
But here and now, do we our task?

Yet, this is the thing our souls must ask,
What have we done today?

Keep Your Home in Shape with this Spring Maintenance Checklist

Summer will be here before you know it so now’s a good time to invest in home maintenance that will save you money in the long run. Keep your home in shape with this spring maintenance checklist that will help protect your investment.

Plumbing: Snake and clean all tub, shower and sink drains as necessary to avoid costly plumbing problems.

HVAC: Check heating, ventilation and air conditioning, or HVAC, filters and change to keep your system running at maximum efficiency. If necessary, have an HVAC professional inspect and maintain your air conditioning system.

Appliances: Clean your dishwasher screen to get rid of trapped food particles that can block water flow and affect efficiency.

Nate’s Monday Morning Message

Nate’s Monday Morning Message

Welcome to this week’s edition of Nate's Monday Message! I want to take this opportunity to wish each of you reading this who are mother’s - including those who are step-moms and grandmother’s doing double duty - a very happy Mother’s Day celebration this coming weekend.

I also want to give a big shout out to my daughter Brandi for being an amazing mother to my granddaughter, Hayden. It is a joy I can’t describe to see my child raising her own child with such grace, confidence, love and compassion. To my partner Tonya, who is the mother of my youngest daughter Mila, I want to thank you for your constant dedication to our family, to our home and the efforts you put into raising our daughter to be a bright, loving, ambition young lady. I could not do it without you.

Lastly to my own Mother, I want to say thank you for helping me to become the man I am today. I know it was not an easy journey raising me and my siblings by yourself and I want you to know that there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t thank you for your dedication, love and strength.

I hope that you will each take a moment this week and over the weekend to thank your own mom on this Mother’s Day celebration. Let’s make it a great week!

5 Tips for Hiring Home Maintenance Pros

by Nate Martinez

5 Tips for Hiring Home Maintenance Pros

If you don't have the expertise or time to handle these tasks, hiring a professional can help you stay on top of things. Here are quick tips on how to hire a contractor or service professional from Katherine Hutt, director of communications with the U.S. Better Business Bureau.

1.) Ask friends and family for references. After you have some names to work with, look the providers up on BBB.org to check their rating for complaints against the business. The more research you do, the more questions you'll know to ask — especially if online reviewers have called out specific issues, Hutt says.

2.) Make sure you read bids and contracts thoroughly. Don't let anyone pressure you to sign on the spot. If you don't understand something, ask for clarification. The bigger the project, the more important it is to take time to review contracts (or have your lawyer do it).

3.) Know the difference between an estimate and a contract. Provide a spec sheet of what services or products you want so you can compare bids. When it's time to put things in writing, request a contract that details the provider's warranties, payment schedule, line item list of each service being performed, and a timeline of completion.

4.) Don't pay for projects upfront. This is especially true of major remodeling projects. Hutt recommends that you structure payments in three parts: one-third upfront (as a deposit), one-third halfway through, and the final one-third after completion.

5.) Protect yourself from subcontractors and suppliers. Add a clause in your contract requiring the contractor to pay all subcontractors and suppliers prior to final payment. Otherwise, those companies or individuals may come after you (the homeowner) for payment and put a lien on your house, Hutt warns.

If you need assistance finding a home maintenance pro, please contact the Nate Martinez Team and we’ll be happy to provide you a referral from our recommended vendor list.

Nate's Monday Morning Message

Nate’s Monday Morning Message

Welcome to this week’s edition of Nate's Monday Message! I hope you all had a fabulous weekend and that you found some time to relax and refresh before hitting the ground running for another amazing week. Remember the reasons why you work so hard: accomplishment, satisfaction, provide for your family, build wealth, charter new waters, fine tune your skills, competition, etc.

Please take five minutes this Monday morning to remember and really think about why you do what you do. The purpose behind your actions is what will get you through difficult times. The goals that you set are the markers of success and achievement. They will guide you on the journey. The actions you take daily are what move you forward little by little to achieve all that you desire. Keep your purpose in sight and work hard on the actions that will lead to your success.  And remember, never, never, never quit! Let’s make it a great week!

Climb 'Til Your Dream Comes True
Written by Helen Steiner Rice

Often your tasks will be many,
And more than you think you can do.

Often the road will be rugged
And the hills insurmountable, too.

But always remember, the hills ahead
Are never as steep as they seem,

And with Faith in your heart start upward
And climb 'til you reach your dream.

For nothing in life that is worthy
Is ever too hard to achieve

If you have the courage to try it,
And you have the faith to believe.

For faith is a force that is greater
Than knowledge or power or skill,

And many defeats turn to triumph
If you trust in God's wisdom and will.

For faith is a mover of mountains,
There's nothing that God cannot do,

So, start out today with faith in your heart,
And climb 'til your dream comes true!

Nate's Monday Morning Message

by Nate Martinez

Nate’s Monday Morning Message

Welcome to this week’s edition of Nate's Monday Message! I hope everyone enjoyed the Easter holiday weekend! Let's start out this week taking a few minutes to examine where we are in both our personal and business lives.

Do we have a stated purpose for both? Do we have a plan to achieve the result desired? Are we working each and every day on the actions that our plan calls for? Are we happy? Do we need to make some changes or work a little harder or smarter to achieve our goals? Are we allowing negative people or thoughts to influence us?

We decide what we will or will not do. We have control over what thoughts will or will not influence us. We choose to act the way we do every minute of every day. If we choose to, we have the power to change anything in our lives for the better. I would love to hear from you on what you plan to do this week to get you closer to your purpose in life! Let’s make it a great week!

“Storms Bring Out the Eagles, But the Little Birds Take Cover.” - Helen Steiner Rice

When the "storms of life"

Gather darkly ahead,

I think of these wonderful words

I once read.

And I say to myself

As "threatening clouds" hover,

Don't "fold up your wings"

And "run for cover."

But like the eagle,

"Spread wide your wings"

And "soar far above"

The troubles life brings.

For the eagle knows

That the higher he flies,

The more tranquil and brighter

Become the skies.

And there is nothing in life

God ever asks us to bear

That we can't soar above

"On the wings of prayer."

And in looking back over

The "storm you passed through,"

You'll find you gained strength

And new courage, too.

For in facing "life's storms"

With an eagle's wings,

You can fly far above

Earth's small, petty things.

The Rocks and Sand Experiment

A philosophy professor stood before his class and had some items in front of him. When class began, wordlessly he picked up a large empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with rocks, rocks about 2" in diameter.

He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles, of course, rolled into the open areas between the rocks.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was. The students laughed. The professor picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. "Now," said the professor, "I want you to recognize that this is your life. The rocks are the important things - your family, your partner, your health, your children - anything that is so important to you that if it were lost, you would be nearly destroyed. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, your car.”

“The sand is everything else. The small stuff. If you put the sand into the jar first, there is no room for the pebbles or the rocks. The same goes for your life. If you spend all your energy and time on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out dancing. There will always be time to go to work, clean the house, give a dinner party and fix the disposal.”

“Take care of the rocks first - the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

WORDS OF INSPIRATION

“Stay true to yourself, yet always be open to learn. Work hard, and never give up on your dreams, even when nobody else believes they can come true but you. These are not clichés but real tools you need no matter what you do in life to stay focused on your path.” - Phillip Sweet

“I learned that we can do anything, but we can't do everything... at least not at the same time. So think of your priorities not in terms of what activities you do, but when you do them. Timing is everything.” -Dan Millman
