Top 5 New Year’s Eve Superstitions

New Year’s Day is a holiday celebrated all over the world with different customs and rituals. Originating over 4,000 years ago by ancient Babylonians, the holiday has since picked up its own quirky superstitions along the way. Perhaps you’ve heard of some of these or have been doing them for years! Here are the top 5 New Year’s Eve superstitions.

1.) “Kissmas” Eve: A kiss at the stroke of midnight signifies the purification into the New Year. Kissing someone dear to you at midnight will ensure affection for the next twelve months. If you happen to be alone at midnight, kissing the dog or cat would certainly work. (Thank goodness!)

2.) Noisy New Year: Crank up those poppers and noisemakers. Making deafening noise is said to drive away evil spirits from entering your life for the next year.

3.) Greens for greens: Apparently eating black-eyed peas and greens brings good luck and financial prosperity. You are to eat the peas with greens for prosperity as the peas represent good luck and the greens represent money. Yum!

4.) Let the right one in: The first person entering your home in the New Year will influence the year you’re about to have. So careful who you open your door to!

5.) Nothing in, nothing out: Nothing goes out of the house on New Year’s, or you will be losing things during the upcoming year. If your trash needs emptying, do it before midnight or on January 2nd. If you have food or anything to take somewhere on New Year’s day, have it at their house already.

Regardless of which superstitions keep the spirits at bay on New Year’s Day, The Nate Martinez Team wishes you and yours a wonderful and Happy New Year!

Welcome to the New Year’s Day edition of Nate’s Monday Morning Message! It is the first day of the New Year and I hope you are filled with excitement and wonder of what will be in store for all of us over the next twelve months. It is a clean slate, and an opportunity to commit to your goals and resolutions. But before you dive into the New Year, here are a few questions to ask yourself…

1. What was your best accomplishment in 2017?
2. What is something that is holding you back? And how can you let it go?
3. What are you committed to achieving in 2017?
4. How are you going to work on building long-term wealth?
5. What are you most grateful for?
6. Who do you need to forgive?
7. What new habits will you cultivate for 2017?

Wishing you and your loved ones a very happy New Year…I look forward to providing you with weekly inspiration in 2018! Let’s make it a great week!

“And now we welcome the new year. Full of things that have never been.” - Rainer Maria Rilke

“The object of a New Year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul and a new nose; new feet, a new backbone, new ears, and new eyes. Unless a particular man made New Year resolutions, he would make no resolutions. Unless a man starts afresh about things, he will certainly do nothing effective.” - Gilbert K. Chesterton

“Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.” - Oprah Winfrey

“All of us every single year, we're a different person. I don't think we're the same person all our lives.” - Steven Spielberg

“Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let every new year find you a better man.” - Benjamin Franklin
