Or there is the mountain climbing, cliff diving or bungee jumping...

When you set any goal, no matter how big or small, it is important that you WRITE IT down and keep it somewhere you can SEE IT every day. Also, you do not want to set yourself up for failure by setting a goal that is impossible to achieve. A very helpful way of making your goals more powerful is by using the SMART mnemonic.

S - Specific or Significant
M - Measurable or Meaningful
A - Attainable or Action Oriented
R - Relevant or Rewarding
T- Time-bound or Track-able

When you write your goals out, make sure you state each one as a positive affirmation. Using negative statements, like "don't make stupid mistakes" is not helpful in supporting your mental picture of the goal. Be precise with your goal setting. Have specific time lines, amounts, etc so you can measure your achievements. Make sure you set priorities for your goals, especially if you have more than one you want to tackle. If you don't prioritize, you could become overwhelmed and therefore, fail before you even get started. And lastly, HAVE FUN! When you give thought and consideration to what you want "to do" by 12/31/2011, make sure you are having some fun along the way!
