Nate's Monday Morning Message

by Nate Martinez

Nate’s Monday Morning Message

Welcome to this week’s Monday Morning Message…today we honor those brave men and women who have sacrificed their lives so that we may call our great country, “Home of the Free.” To those who maybe reading this, that have served in the military, let me be the first today to say thank you. Without your service, we would not have this day to celebrate. Happy Veteran’s Day! Let’s make it a great week!

ENCOURAGEMENT CORNER

The Best on Earth: A Veteran's Day Tribute

Written by Joanna Fuchs

If someone has done military service,
They earn the title "veteran," and more;
They earn our deep respect and admiration;
That they are special no one can ignore.

They sacrificed the comforts we enjoy;
The list is long of all the things they gave.
Our veterans are extraordinary people;
They’re loyal, dedicated, true and brave.

When terror and invasion were real threats,
They showed us they could handle any storm.
We owe our freedoms and our very lives
To our veterans, who served in uniform.

Our veterans should be celebrities;
They’re exceptional; no other group compares.
We’re grateful for the many things they’ve done;
They’re always in our hearts and in our prayers.

We owe our veterans support and friendship;
Let no one ever question what they’re worth.
These men and women served us and our country,
Our veterans--the very best on earth.

In Loving Memory of Mark Parris of RE/MAX Renaissance

by Nate Martinez

In Loving Memory of Mark Parris of RE/MAX Renaissance

Losing a member of the RE/MAX family is always a heartbreaking loss for the whole company, and it is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved friend and colleague, Mark Parris.

Mark Taylor Parris, 44, passed away October 29th, 2018. He suffered from sleep apnea and passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home located in Peoria, Arizona. Mark was born October 12th, 1974 in Phoenix, Arizona to Eddy and Betty Parris. Mark was a 1992 graduate of Apollo High School and also attended Arizona State University.

In 2005, Mark and his father, Eddy, established and operated RE/MAX Renaissance Realty. Always promoting the success of others, Mark strove to create the family-oriented company it has become. With an infectious smile and heartfelt hugs, Mark had a gift for making people know they are valued. He was known for his deep love of others and his caring nature. In addition to his strong work ethics, Mark pursued many passions. At the young age of four he started playing hockey, which continued throughout his life. Mark’s other interests included performing and making music, golfing, performing magic tricks, enjoying the theater, mentoring and teaching others, giving back to the community, and above all, building and maintaining relationships with others.

Mark is survived by his father Eddy Parris, mother Betty Parris and stepfather Bill Nelson, sisters Kim Couture, Rhonda Albright, Michelle Parris, Jennifer Ayers, Chandra Black, and brothers Noah Parris and Eric Bauman, plus numerous extended family.

There has been an outpouring of love and support for Mark’s family and friends as his passing has deeply impacted his community. Friends and family of Mark are invited to join in the Celebration of Life service for him this Saturday, November 10th at the Dream City Church located at 21000 N 75th Ave. Glendale, AZ 85308. Viewing service begins at 11:00am, with services to start at 11:30am. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Mark’s name to his favorite charity, Phoenix Children's Hospital.

The Parris Family would love for friends and family to bring in a picture of themselves and Mark to the service, representing a favorite memory or a quote so that the family can view Mark through his friends’ eyes. They will have paper to write quotes on, and please make sure you write on the back of anything, so they know who shared the lovely memory.

Additionally, the RE/MAX Professionals family would like to offer our support to our friends at Renaissance to help and support Mark’s family during this difficult time. A Meal Train has been organized for his family.  Every effort makes a difference when tragedy strikes, so please click here if you would like to volunteer to provide a meal for the Parris family.

Mark was an incredible man and he will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and condolences are with the Parris family at this time.

Nate's Monday Morning Message

by Nate Martinez

Nate’s Monday Morning Message

Welcome to this week’s Monday Morning Message…this week and every week we have the opportunity to make the most from our relationships. When you think of all the things that you have to do today, tomorrow, and the next day, please remember that each one of these presents an opportunity for you.

It is not the people around us or the things that need to be done. It is the attitude we have and the reason we do what we do. We are all blessed with tremendous opportunity. What we do with it is completely up to us. Yes, there will be challenges; there always are. Yes, there may be disappointments; there sometimes is. Yes, there will be tremendous happiness. There will be if you decide that is what you want. Let us have fun in all we do and let us make the very most of each and every opportunity that comes our way. Let’s make it a great week!

ENCOURAGEMENT CORNER

Give Me the Wind by Craig Nicholson

I am at my best with the wind in my face,
When overcoming the challenge, with pace.
The pace that requires more effort, more strength.
But once gained momentum, endures with great length.

It's easy to sit back, placid and calm
Comfort is only a relative balm.
It seems an advantage, better than strife
But is dulled by stagnation, stifling life.

Progress needs movement, energy, drive,
No chance for improvement if you do not strive.
Nothing's for nothing: cause and effect.
That which you work for, you've more chance to get.

So give me the wind, let it blow in my face,
The more I confront, the more strength I'll embrace.
Steps are not mounted, nor challenge overcome.
Without certain courage or effort be done.

Welcome to this week’s edition of Nate’s Monday Morning Message…it’s a spooky week for kids and adults alike, and it’s the official beginning of the holiday season! For me, the holiday season marks a time to spend with family and friends, creating memories that last a lifetime. I hope you will take a moment this week to spend some quality time with those you care about the most…even if they are dressed up as ghosts and gremlins and begging for candy. Happy Halloween! Let’s make it a great week!

ENCOURAGEMENT CORNER

Mystic Magination Night!

On one mystic magic night,
Jack O Lantern glowing bright,
kids with bags of candy sweet,
Roam door to door and street to street,
all dressed up for trick or treat!

Wizards with wands, pirates with hooks,
monsters and clowns with spooky looks,

Kings and queens with capes and crowns,
a princess in her royal gown,

witches with warts and fairies with wings,
movie stars with sparkling rings,

vampires with fangs that bite,
ghosts that boo all dressed in white.

Imaginations taken flight,
on that one mystic magic night.

Oh, the fun of Halloween,
be young or old or in between.

Nate's Monday Morning Message - Happy Birthday Tonya!

by Nate Martinez

Nate’s Monday Morning Message - Happy Birthday Tonya!

Tomorrow we will be celebrating a special birthday and a very special lady that I would like to dedicate today’s Monday Morning Message to…I have been a blessed man in both my business and my personal life, but none of that would be possible without the support and love that I receive from my family. It has been a privilege to share my life with my partner and the woman who gave me our beautiful daughter. I know I don’t say it enough but the gratitude I have for you transcends what I can put down in words. Thank you for being there, no matter the late nights, the long trips or the interrupted dinner plans. Thank you for raising our daughter to be kind, strong, smart and determined. You handle our chaotic life with such grace, patience, love and with that gorgeous smile that still makes me weak at the knees, all these years later. If you have had the pleasure of spending any time with Tonya, you know that what I type is true and then some…so please help me wish her a very happy, happy, happy birthday!!! I love you T!

RE/MAX National Housing Report September 2018

by Nate Martinez

RE/MAX National Housing Report September 2018

The RE/MAX National Housing Report for September 2018 showed the trends of fewer closings and stabilizing inventory continued through September, punctuated by a surprisingly big 11.6 percent year-over-year drop in home sales. At the same time, the RE/MAX National Housing Report for September 2018 posted a Median Sales Price of $241,000 that marked the 30th consecutive month of year-over-year price increases. It is the highest September price in the 10-year history of the report. To access the housing report infographic, visit: https://rem.ax/2phKHWT.

The decline in home sales year-over-year was the largest since May of 2011, as September became the seventh month of 2018 to record lower sales than 2017. Even so, year-to-date 2018 home sales resemble 2017’s.

“The big drop in September closings catches your attention. The market is clearly rebalancing as buyers and sellers continue to process the increasing interest rate environment and what that means to them,” said RE/MAX CEO Adam Contos. “The slower drop in inventory – a visible trend for nearly half a year – further illustrates the ongoing shift toward market equilibrium, and that’s healthy in the long-term.”

Active inventory dropped for the 119th consecutive month, the decline of 4.7 percent from September 2017 was the smallest year-over-year decrease since August 2014. In addition, the September year-over-year inventory drop was the fifth consecutive month in 2018 to post single-digit percent declines rather than the double-digit monthly drops consistently seen over the previous three years.

“It’s a little surprising to see prices staying so strong, but it’s hardly shocking in such a tight market,” said Contos. “The headwinds of rising prices and interest rates amid already tight inventory levels have been crimping affordability and slowing sales for most of the year, but it varies by geography.  In circumstances like these, where the market is tricky to navigate, both buyers and sellers can benefit by aligning themselves with a professional agent – a local expert who can cut through the noise and advocate on their behalf.”

Home prices rose by 5.6 percent over September 2017, more than twice the year-over-year price increase of 2.3 percent from September 2016 to September 2017. That reversed a trend seen in the previous three months, when year-over-year price increases trailed 2017’s rate of growth.

Months Supply of Inventory totaled 3.7, which is the second-lowest for September in report history, second only to 3.6 months in September 2017. Days on Market of 46 was a September record for the report – three days less than September 2017. Of the 54 metro areas surveyed in September 2018, the overall average number of home sales is down 1.1percent compared to August 2018, and down 11.6 percent compared to September 2017.

Nate’s Monday Morning Message

Welcome to this week’s edition of Nate’s Monday Morning Message…are you creating opportunities to make those around you smile? Regardless of where you are in life, you do have control over your actions and your thinking. As we work to make ourselves better, let us also work to make those around us better at the same time.

What can you do this week to improve the lives of your family, friends, or neighbors? Maybe it is just a simple smile, or a phone call, or lending a helping hand. I know that for each of us there is something that we can do. Let’s find a way to let the goodness come out and flourish around those we care about the most. Let’s make it a great week!

ENCOURAGEMENT CORNER

A doctor, a lawyer, a little boy and a priest were out for a Sunday afternoon flight on a small private plane. Suddenly, the plane developed engine trouble. Despite the best efforts of the pilot, the plane started to go down. Finally, the pilot grabbed a parachute and yelled to the passengers that they better jump, and he himself bailed out.

Unfortunately, there were only three parachutes remaining. The doctor grabbed one and said, “I’m a doctor, I save lives, so I must live,” and jumped out. The lawyer then said, “I’m a lawyer and lawyers are the smartest people in the world. I deserve to live.” He also grabbed a parachute and jumped. The priest looked at the little boy and said, “My son, I’ve lived a long and full life. You are young and have your whole life ahead of you. Take the last parachute and live in peace.” The little boy handed the parachute back to the priest and said, “Not to worry Father. The smartest man in the world just took off with my back pack.”

ENCOURAGEMENT CORNER

A Boy’s Weakness

A 10-year-old boy decided to study judo despite the fact that he had lost his left arm in a devastating car accident. The boy began lessons with an old Japanese judo master. The boy was doing well, so he couldn’t understand why, after three months of training the master had taught him only one move. “Sensei,” the boy asked, “Shouldn’t I be learning more moves?”

“This is the only move you know, but this is the only move you’ll ever need to know,” the sensei replied. Not quite understanding, but believing in his teacher, the boy kept training. Several months later, the sensei took the boy to his first tournament. Surprising himself, the boy easily won his first two matches. The third match proved to be more difficult, but after some time, his opponent became impatient and charged; the boy deftly used his one move to win the match. Still amazed by his success, the boy was now in the finals.

This time, his opponent was bigger, stronger, and more experienced. For a while, the boy appeared to be over-matched. Concerned that the boy might get hurt, the referee called a time-out. He was about to stop the match when the sensei intervened. “No,” the sensei insisted, “Let him continue.” Soon after the match resumed, his opponent made a critical mistake: he dropped his guard. Instantly, the boy used his move to pin him. The boy had won the match and the tournament. He was the champion.

On the way home, the boy and sensei reviewed every move in each and every match. Then the boy summoned the courage to ask what was really on his mind. “Sensei, how did I win the tournament with only one move?” “You won for two reasons,” the sensei answered. “First, you’ve almost mastered one of the most difficult throws in all of judo. And second, the only known defense for that move is for your opponent to grab your left arm.” The boy’s biggest weakness had become his biggest strength.
